Candace, also known as "Candy," was left at Pony's Home orphanage as a baby. Despite her upbringing, she was filled with energy and liveliness. Unfortunately, her closest pal of six years, Annie, was adopted by a wealthy family, leaving Candy heartbroken. In need of comfort, she found herself crying on a hill close to the orphanage where she encountered a boy of royal demeanor donning Scottish attire. The boy played his bagpipe spectacularly to ease her sorrow. The boy never revealed his name, prompting Candy to refer to him as the "Prince of the Hill."
Six years following the meeting, now twelve-year-old Candy was taken in by the Leagans to be the companion of Eliza and Neil. The Leagans were unpleasant to her, but she discovered a resemblance in Anthony Brown to the royal character she once met. Candy was thrilled at the possibility of a reunion and began a journey that would change her life forever.
