After losing his beloved wife, high school teacher Kouhei Inuzuka made a valiant effort to whip up a meal for his five-year-old daughter Tsumugi, despite his lack of cooking skills. However, after one catastrophic attempt, they resorted to relying on food from convenience stores. During a flower-viewing excursion, Kouhei and Tsumugi stumbled upon Kotori Iida, one of Kouhei's socially awkward students. When Kotori noticed Tsumugi eyeing her lunch, she invited them to her mother's restaurant.
Desperate to feed his daughter something appetizing, Kouhei barged into the restaurant in the middle of the night, only to find Kotori eagerly waiting to assist him in the kitchen. Despite Kotori's limited culinary abilities, the pair managed to concoct a simple dish. Kotori had been eating dinner alone for a prolonged period due to her mother's job.
